Understanding Microcurrent Technology for Beautiful Lips & Face

HISTORY: In 1830, Dr. Carlos Matteucci discovered that injured tissue in the human body discharged electricity and since that discovery, over 120 years ago, many experiments with microcurrent have been done to validate his findings. The use of microcurrent has become an acceptable form of therapy in the treatment of wounds, soft tissue and bone fracture because of its ability to heal the body at a rate of 250% to 350% faster than someone not using microcurrent therapy. However, it was the accidental discovery of a physician treating Bell’s palsy patients for paralysis that lead microcurrent to become integrated into the aesthetic field. WHAT IS MICROCURRENT: Microcurrent, meaning mild electrical current, is a near duplicate electrical current to that which the body generates on its own. What is Ultrasound?

What is ultrasound? Consider what the word implies, it is a kind of sound. Sound transformed from wave, just like ripples with different sizes and densities. Different waves bring us sounds high and low. Human's hearing range is from 20 to 18000Hz. The higher the Hz, the higher the tone we hear. Like the strings of violins, the thinnest ones always pull out the higher sound. Ultrasound is the sound that human beings can not hear. In engineering, a rate over 20000Hz is called ultrasound, i.e. the threshold above 20000 vibrations per second.

To the human ear, ultrasound is inaudible. However to many animals it is heard clearly. For example, a bat can release 20 thousand to 200 thousand Hz of ultrasound. A dolphin or a whale can also discriminate hundreds of thousands Hz of ultrasound. If ultrasound means nothing to our hearing, what can we do with it? We can take the advantage of its density and speed on more subtle functions. However, we first have to know what ultrasound can do to help achieve a more beautiful face.

Physical Foundation of Ultrasound for Beautiful Lips

The unit of the rate of ultrasound is Hertz and that of the intensity (the density of the output power) of ultrasound is Watt, while the action strength is W/ cm2, i.e. one unit of output intensity working on one square centimeter. We have to set for different intensities for different purposes, or else powerful ultrasound could hurt very much like a keen knife. There are two kinds of waveforms that common ultrasound devices provide. One is continuous waveform and the other, pulses. The difference between the two is that the pulse waveform, unlike the continuous one having heat efficacy, produces a more powerful and sudden output in every circle, making this better to use on certain abnormalities. Hence, we use it in the field of therapy. On the other hand, heat helps beautification so much that we prefer the continuous waveform.

The Rate or Frequency of Ultrasound

The rate or frequency of ultrasound means the number of vibrations occurring in a second. Hertz is the unit of measurement. 1000 wave circles occurring in one second means 1000Hz, 10000 wave circles, 10000Hz. As to ultrasound, over 20000Hz, it is not to be heard by human beings. At present, the ultrasound devices for both medicine and beauty are ranged from 1MHz to 5MHz or so.

The Intensity of Ultrasound

The intensity of ultrasound is measured as Watt, while the action strength is W/ cm 2, i.e. one unit of output intensity working on one square centimeter. Passed through the safe test, the safe standard of continuous waveform is 1W/ cm 2 and pulse waveform, 240mW/ cm 2. For instance, shattering the stones inside the body needs 10W/ cm 2 of ultrasound. Cleaning equipment uses 10 to 100W/ cm 2. Continuous ultrasound of 0.5~3 W/ cm 2 affects the transmission of the peripheral nerves. 5~10 minutes 2~3 W/ cm 2 causes the axis cylinder of the sciatic nerve to bulge up and then block the nervous pulses. As to beautification, the action strength must be much less, so as to not over-stimulate the tissues. On the face the output is 0.5W/ cm 2 and on muscles 1W/ cm 2. That is why almost all beauty devices limit the highest output.
